Demolish those energy expenses
Demolish those energy expenses
It is also financially beneficial when you consider the constant rise in gas bills driven on by your gas central heating. Whilst you use electricity and gas throughout your household you may find that up to one 50% of your gas bill relates to your central heating system gas use. Every house should be able to reduce its heating system expenses by accomplishing some of the tips we have outlined below.
Don’t use the gas central heating in places where it is not required :
Turn off the metal radiator in any rooms which are not used such as the guest room or utility room. You want to keep your household temperature comfortable that this doesn’t require you to heat rooms which are not going to be occupied for a number of days. If you keep the entrance door shut to the room it will prevent the flow of cold air around your home.
Use the boiler to heat your home rather than other appliances :
If the gas heating system is on using it to heat one additional room consumes only a little extra gas. A lot of the heat generated by a fire goes up in the flue to the outside, modern central heating systems are much more efficient in heating your home than using an electric fire.
Eliminate drafts with insulation
gas is wasted in homes due to poor insulation and drafts bringing chilly air into the home. Doors are often areas where chilly air leaks in so use approved door insulation. There can be cracks between the window and entrance door frames and a wall which are easily sealed with a foam based sealer. These type of gaps happen often in aging homes as the foundations settle. The flame from a wax candle can help you to see invisible draughts as it flickers when they are present.
Put on a jumper and warmer clothing :
If you are chilly in the room put on some more clothes before you move to increase the thermostatic temperature. Amazingly, a 1° decrease in the room thermostat can result in a ten% reduction in your energy use.
Temperature can be manipulated by using your drapes :
The sun can be used to heat up your home in the winter by keeping curtains open on the side of the house where it is shining. With dropping night-time outside temperatures your windows can lose a lot of heat. Closing a set of heavy curtains can trim this heat loss, saving a small amount each daylight amounts to a large saving on your heating bills over time. Thick curtains are better at preventing heat loss than thin ones.
:
Check your heating boiler system and whether it has a hot water cylinder as this should be insulated. The hot water cylinder can hold its heat throughout the daytime if insulated making water available for you whenever required.
Putting aluminium foil at the rear of radiators could save a large sum each year.
